Mr. Kyle Willman Interviewed by Kaycee Lytle, 2014
Kyle Willman defended our country in Iraq during 2001 in the Global War on Terror.
He currently resides in Pendleton, Oregon. His platoon is based out of Bend.
In the interview, he shows a flag and explains that the flag means a lot to him. The flag represents his best friend that he attended school with from elementary all the way to high school. He had died one week before he was to come back home from Baghdad.
He also talks about how they had found a mud house that had a false floor with a large collection of artillery shells.
Mr. Kyle Willman Interviewed by Cody Dunn, 2017
Kyle Willman was raised in Pendleton Oregon and volunteered in 2001 to join the United States Army. He took part in Operation Iraqi Freedom 3, part of the Global War on Terror in Iraq.
He worked in Human Resources and was also a platoon radioman. His platoon was based out of Bend. In our interview, he talks about his time in the service and what it meant to him. He tells me stories about his time in the service and his training experiences leading to that point. He explains his first experience with a sandstorm and his very laid back experiences on his way to FOB Gainbridge. These things included Halo video game tournaments, football games, soccer games, etc.
He makes sure to bring up the fact that although all branches give each other a hard time, they are one big family, and he knows that if he ever is struggling he could make a phone call and have someone there for him.
Even with the end of his active duty and others’ active duty, there is still a connection through their similar experiences. I was very much privileged to interview Mr. Willman, and am very gratuitous for his service.
