Sample Workshops A Room Full of Leaders How can someone who already has leadership skills learn even more strategies to being an effective leader? They can start by attending this workshop. Join the State Officers and learn how to cultivate leadership growth individually and as a team, then, contribute your own ideas of what efficient leadership looks like and grow alongside a room full of leaders! Keep the Members Coming While we all know the benefits of FBLA, it can be difficult to get others to see them. Join the State Officers as they discuss strategies to recruiting new members and keeping current members engaged, allowing your chapter to keep the members coming! Be Better Than Me: 5 Things That Every Great Leader Should Demonstrate to their Team This workshop will help members examine and discuss great leaders of the world and five must-have takeaways from their successes or failures in successfully leading teams. They will be encouraged to leave with a mindset that exemplifies a team and mission first mentality, what changes need to be made, and what areas of strength they already have in place. Ego Is the Enemy: Unpacking the Characteristics and Qualities of Great Leaders This workshop centers around the mindset of humility and the concept of being a lifelong learner. Arrogance is the downfall of any person of influence, but integrity in all things is the sign of a masterful leader. The most progressive leaders in modern history operated with humble hearts while seeing the value of others as an absolute necessity to goal completion. This workshop will allow the scholars to self-examine areas of opportunity and growth in the space of character and personal accountability to lead well. All About Interviews: Should You Eat Corn on the Cob While Being Interviewed for a Job? The guide to a buttery-smooth interview that will POP their socks off. Sink or Swim: How to Survive the College Applicant Pool Panelists include: Grand Canyon University, Oregon Institute of Technology, Western University The college admission process is competitive, and forging an impressive application is a craft one must learn. Join a group of college admissions officers from across the western region as they discuss strategies to strengthen your college application. Winners Take The Stairs: Understanding How Shortcuts and Average Thinking Limits Career Success his workshop will be grounded in career development and the journey required to be successful. Scholars will leave with a better understanding of how mastering the small things leads to better career success outcomes no matter the field. |
State Business Leadership Conference
Qualifying Procedures...or How Do I Get to State?
- Each participant must have paid state and national dues to Oregon FBLA on or before March 1, 2013 in order to compete.
- Place in the top 10 at the Blue Mountain Regional Skills Conference. Compete at state in this event, along with a second event.
- If spots are available, and/or funds allow, compete in one Objective Test (pages 7-9 in the pdf document below), along with a second Performance Event (pages 10-14 of the pdf below).
- Be an active FBLA contributor at state by being a Voting Delegate: Each chapter attending the SBLC is responsible for appointing one (1) voting delegate to attend the Annual Business Meeting. As a volunteer-led association, the power to change, direct, and propel the association rests with student voting delegates. Voting delegates elect state officers and approve amendments to the Student Bylaws. Voting Delegates are required to attend the opening session/campaign rally, visit campaign booths, and attend the Oregon FBLA Annual Business Meeting and Voting Session. Voting delegates will meet on the second evening of the SBLC for the Oregon FBLA Annual Business Meeting. AND be a member of the Courtesy Corps: assist with workshop set-up, FBLA Village, competitive event set-up, workshop hosting, state officer rehearsals, exhibitor hosting, and much more. Receive a special identifying gift, a name badge ribbon, and a certificate for participating. After registration has closed, Courtesy Corps volunteers will be contacted to sign up for their desired 4-hour time block. There will be an orientation call, as well as orientation at the SBLC.
- Have the approval of the FBLA chapter adviser.
- Have the approval of the school administration.
- Have the approval of your parent (or guardian).
- Have on file with the local adviser a completed emergency medical form and a signed Code of Conduct form. These documents are pages 30-33 from the following pdf file. Please print these 4 pages double sided, fill them out, and return to me.
